I qualified in medicine from the Universities of Oxford and London followed by specialty medical training in London, Cambridge, Basel and Oxford. I was recruited from Oxford to Imperial College London in 2007 to formulate new scientific and public health strategies to tackle the world’s most serious respiratory infections: TB and pandemic influenza. I haveAjitAjI have published >150 peer-reviewed papers with >13,000 citations and raised >£25 million research funding. I chair the Clinical and Public Health Research Committee of the India Alliance, a joint venture between the Wellcome Trust and Govt of India to fund India’s best biomedical researchers. I am interested in social determinants of illness and tackling health inequalities through community-wide improvement in health literacy, lifestyle choices and nutrition and chair the Board of Trustees of the Bromley-by-Bow Centre, Tower Hamlets. I am also interested in engaging the public in science and serve as a Governor of the Science Museum Group, London.
